Surface of the Playing Area: The surface should be flat, horizontal, and uniform. It should not pose any risk of injury to the players. Playing on rough and slippery surfaces is prohibited. In FIVB World and Official Competitions, only wooden or synthetic surfaces are allowed, and these surfaces must be previously approved by the FIVB. In indoor arenas, the playing area's surface should be light-colored. For lines during FIVB World and Official Competitions, white should be used for the play area and different colors for the free zone. An incline of 5 mm per meter is allowed for drainage in outdoor courts. It is forbidden to make court lines from hard materials.

Lines on the Playing Area: All lines are 5 cm wide. The lines should be of a color that is different and distinct from the floor and other lines.

Boundary Lines: The two side and two end lines define the playing area. Both side and end lines are drawn as part of the dimensions of the playing area.

Center Line: The center line divides the playing area into two equal sections of 9x9 m. However, the center line is considered to be entirely within both playing areas. This line extends under the net between the two side lines.

Attack Line: In each playing area, an attack line is drawn 3 m behind the center line's exact center, defining the front zone.
